How to link your NIN with your SIM card: MTN, Glo, Airtel and 9mobile

National Identity Numbers (NIN) is now an important identity to all Nigerians following the directive from Federal Government through the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) that all Mobile phone users in Nigeria must link all SIM cards to NIN due to security challenge.

If you haven’t link your sim card this post is designed to solve your challenge on how to link it on MTN, GLO, AIRTEL AND 9MOBILE .

All mobile phone users are obligated to submit their NIN to their service provider; once the NIN you have submitted has been verified successfully with NIMC, your verified NIN will be linked with your SIM registration.

This directive is to all citizens of Nigeria who are telecoms subscribers. Your NIN must be paired with your SIM Registration details.

How do I confirm my NIN number?

You can check your NIN Slip, it has your 11 Digit Number at the top left corner, on the second row. You can also dial *346# and press 1 to retrieve your NIN.

How to link your sim card to NIN as MTN Subscriber.

MTN Subscribers can link their sim via, ussd code, sms, MyMTN app and online portal: The steps below explain details on how you can link your sim to NIN.

MTN subscribers can simply dial *785*Your11 digit NIN# and following the prompts message .The service is free of charge, you don’t need to pay for it.

MyMTN app

To download MyMTN app, text ‘MYMTN’ to 5018 OR Visit portal to link your sim card to NIN


As MTN customer simply Text NIN- your 11 digit NIN to 785 and send e.g: NIN-12345678999 to 785.

Globacom esteemed customers can now link their National Identification Number (NIN) to their mobile numbers by simply  dialing *109* NIN # {  Example  *109* 12345678923 # }  Also Glo subscribers  can send  text message  by sending  ‘UPDATENIN NIN FirstName and LastName’ to 109. For example, send ‘UPDATENIN 12345678903 Emeka Chukchuma Destiny’ to 109.”

9Mobile customers formally known as Etisalat are to dial *200*8# to link their NIN, or visit and follow instructions.


Airtel customers are to dial *121*1# to link their NIN, or visit and follow instructions.

NIMC Mobile ID App

Mobile user in Nigeria can also make use of National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) application to link their sim to NIN by following the steps below.

1. Obtain the app at
2.Open the app and log in with your security PIN.
3.Tap on ‘My Devices’ button on the bottom right part of your dashboard on the app.
4.Tap on ‘Add Mobile Number’ and input the mobile phone number you wish to link.
5.Next input the OTP sent to that mobile phone number.
6.You can link up to seven (7) mobile phone numbers.
