Names of Nigeria 36 States and capital & their slogan-Nigeria is a sovereign state with 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory Abuja. It has more than 250 ethnic groups, but the major are Hausa/Fulani, Yoruba, and was made a British colony in 1914 when the British Protectorates of Northern and Southern Nigeria were joined. It gained independence in 1960 and became a republic in 1963

The country  is an African country on the Gulf of Guinea, with its capital city as Abuja where the seat of power is situated ….has many natural landmarks and wildlife reserves. Protected areas such as Cross River National Park and Yankari National Park have waterfalls, dense rain forest, savanna and rare primate habitats.

Nigeria has an abundant natural resources, notably large deposits of petroleum and natural gas.Nigeria is bordered to the north by Niger, to the east by Chad and Cameroon, to the south by the Gulf of Guinea of the Atlantic Ocean, and to the west by Benin with landmark Area of 356,669 sq mi (923,768 sq km).

Before independent, Nigeria  was only three regions namely northern , eastern and southern regions.The country has three major languages and ethic group namely, Hausa; Igbo; Yoruba and English as official language . The major country Religions are : Christianity (Protestant, other Christians, Roman Catholic), Islam, traditional beliefs

Geopolitical Zones in Nigeria

These Are  six geopolitical zones.

  1. North Central: Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, and Plateau States, as well as the Federal Capital Territory.
  2. North East: Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba, and Yobe States.
  3. North West: Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara States.
  4. South East: Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo States.
  5. South-South/Niger Delta: Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, and Rivers States.
  6. South West: Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, and Oyo States.


To sum up, the country (Federal Capital Territory) is Abuja  Slogan : “Center of Unity” which was created by decree in 1976 and In 1991 the capital was moved from Lagos to Abuja
